Are there specific brands that are preferable to others? I'd like to buy a washer to wash my house. I know that I can rent one, but a washer is just one of those things that I'd like to have on hand for those "just in case" moments.

I don't have specific brand I am partial to, but I will recommend getting a unit with a Honda engine. Are you going to just do your own home or do you plan to start doing others in the future?

Like Daniel said, anything with a Honda engine on it is a plus. I like General water pumps. The Cat pumps are okay but they are a bit more pricey and more expensive to repair.

If you are just using it around the house then a direct drive unit will be fine. Most contractors will spend more money and get a belt driven unit. Read this post to find out the differences between a belt and direct drive.

I am not really partial to a certain name brand either but personally I would stay away from Karcher brand, they are junk!

I just plan on using it on my own home. I have enough to take care of without having to worry about someone else's home. Laughing I'll take some time over the weekend and check out the brands that the two of you suggested. Thanks
