Having been in construction for over 15 years, including roofing, I can tell you with confidence that you never want to pressure wash a shingle roof.
When excessive water pressure is used it blasts away many of the shingle granules that are there to protect the shingle, therefore it lessens the longevity of the shingles which ends up costing the home owner money.
To kill and remove black roof algae a low pressure chemical application of bleach and tsp is what is recommended by most of the major shingle manufacturers, followed by a light rinsing. |

| Many homeowners have spent thousands of dollars replacing shingle roofs that could have been restored to a like new appearance with simple low pressure cleaning. Even though a roof that has darker shingles doesn't show the dirt as easy, it will still get soiled and become unsightly. Some of the most common "dirt" is road dust, tree sap, moss, and mildew. The latter two can be real problems, especially if your house is shaded by tree. You can clean the shingles or tiles on your roof, though, and not only clear away the dirt, but also remove the stains left by these fungus. |

Congratulations Barry on achieving a very highly ranked roof cleaning and pressure washing website.
Great info on here for customers to research how to clean roofs safely and properly using a no pressure chemical only process.

| I'm curious about the "low pressure" or "no pressure" process. Specifically, how is this achieved? Is it simply turning down pressure or using a special tip or using entirely different equipment? |

It is using totally different equipment....not a pressure washer.
Most guys use a 12V ag pump with chemical hose to apply their roof cleaning solution. |

Hi,
Roof cleaning is a hectic task. Here are some tips to clean your roof.
1. If the roof shingles are in good shape, power washing also could be very effective when cleaning the roof.
2. If you are not able to do cleaning, hire a cleaning services company.
3. When cleaning is complete, there is only one proven way to keep your roof clean forever, and that is by applying a strip of zinc flashing across the ridge of your roof. |

Even if the roof is in good condition i would still not recommend using a power washer on a shingle roof, the roof probably would not be in that good shape any longer after being power washed.
There are pictures Online showing the black streaks growing right up and across the zinc strips so im not really sold on those either. |
