Time and time again, we see one of the big box stores promoting deck stains that will last forever. Take Behr for example. While I was strolling the aisles the other day I looked at a can with the 5-7 year guarantee on it. I had to chuckle just a little bit.
In St. Louis Deck Staining is done a lot by do it yourself homeowners. There is nothing against that, but homeowners should be aware there is no deck stain that last as long as they claim it can last. And if you try to get your money back on it, good luck. They will ask you how you prepped your deck before staining, how did you apply the stain, and the list goes on.
Too many times I have seen Behr stain begin to peel and crack just after six months after being applied. Most of the reason is behind the prepping of the deck. Most St. Louis Deck Staining Companieswill remove the existing stain using the right blend of detergents coupled with low pressure. In order to have any stain work correctly, the old stain must be removed.
Another thing with Behr is it not oil based. Latex based Behr will not penetrate the wood, but rather lay on top of the wood. This is why most of the time instead of fading that you would normally see from oil based stains from 18 to 24 months, you see cracking and peeling from latex, or siliconed based stains.
Make sure you prep your deck the right way and use a good oil based stain when deck staining in Missouri. |
