How often do you have to treat for Roof Cleaning in St. Louis
I've heard of people using a copper product, but I was wondering why a simple algacide mixed with something that would stick it to the roof, why wouldnt that work as a preventer. |

How often a treatment needs to be applied to prevent algae depends on many variables like the product being used and the climate in your area.
There are many roof algae prevention products on the market. From spray on products to zinc strips and even algae resistant shingles. The problem with any of these products is that they haven't been fully tested and proved to prevent algae at all, so nobody can really say that these products work or don't work. Of course they all claim their products work but you know as well as I do they can claim anything they want.
I have seen zinc strips on houses where only the first 2 feet of roof below the strip was free of algae, but the rest of the roof was black from algae. From the information I have found on the algae resistant shingles, I think the shingle manufacturers are heading in the right direction but its still a work in progress. It seems like the prevention chemicals being used in these shingles simply loose their effectiveness. This is why these shingles are referred to as algae "resistant" and not algae proof.
Personally I like a little more conclusive evidence before I spend my hard earned money on a product that claims it can solve a problem. I would suggest calling a professional roof cleaning company, in your area, and talking with them about it. You may be able to find a company that will clean your roof and do a preventive treatment backed with a guarantee of how long it will last. |
