I installed gutter covers to keep the larger debris like leaves out. It seems to work and I have not had any problems with ice. I do clean them once a year. This year I noticed that birds have nested in the gutter, I am worried if it rains the nest will clog the downspouts. Any advice on when sparrows are done nesting for the year?

Once they are gone, I would remove the nest and any other debris they may have dropped in the gutters. If a good rain came it could not only cause the downsouts to clog, but can dam up another section as well and force water out of the gutter and possibly under the shingles causing major damge.

Yes I was up there looking today, it seems like they are gone. I had no idea it could force water under the shingles. We have had some heavy rains already and I didn't think to look although I saw no leaks it doesn't mean it didn't leak between the walls. I will check that area. Thanks for the suggestion
