Apparently whomever stained it last did not take the time to properly remove the old failing deck stain that was on the wood. They simply washed the deck and then slapped a new deck stain right over the old.
At the time the new homeowners took over the deck looked good as it had just been re-stained. It did not take long though for the new deck stain to start to peel and flake. Unfortunately the mess became that of the new homeowners, so they called us to come in and restore the deck. We removed two layers of deck stain using the right chemicals and low pressure so we did not fur or splinter up the soft cedar wood. The prep work came out great, the Goshen customers were a bit surprised as to how the appearance of the deck was completely restored. A couple of days later we came back to apply the new deck stain.
